Embrace Your Mistakes
Mistakes are learning opportunities, not failures — and paint is forgiving

Here's something that surprises new painters: acrylic paint is one of the most forgiving art mediums in existence. Painted something the wrong color? Paint over it. Made a sloppy brushstroke? Wait for it to dry and clean it up. Absolutely hate how a model turned out? Strip the paint entirely and start fresh. Unlike wood carving or pottery, there's almost nothing you can do to a miniature that can't be undone.
Isopropyl alcohol (for metal and resin) or a dedicated paint stripper like Simple Green (for plastic) will remove dried acrylic paint completely. You can always start over — the model underneath is perfectly fine.
Many experienced painters intentionally keep their early "mistake" models as motivation. Seeing how far you've come is one of the most rewarding parts of the hobby. Don't throw away your learning journey.
Some of the best techniques in miniature painting were discovered by accident. A wash that pooled in an unexpected place and created a cool effect. A drybrush that caught an edge just right. A color combination that you never would have planned but looks incredible. These "happy accidents" happen all the time, and experienced painters learn to recognize and build on them instead of seeing them as mistakes.
Mistakes also build muscle memory faster than doing everything right. When you accidentally flood a model with too much wash, you remember that feeling in your brush hand, and next time you instinctively use less. When you drybrush too hard and create a chalky mess, your brain recalibrates your pressure for next time. Every mistake is your body learning what "right" feels like by experiencing "wrong."
